  Pranab starts presenting interim budget

NEW DELHI : Acting finance minister Pranab Mukherjee started presenting the Interim Budget in the Parliament.
 
The interim budget, which will seek spending approval for the period until then, will signal the direction of Congress's election campaign and aims to be a please-all document with a populist streak, analysts said.
 
Here are some of the highlights of his speech

 7 economic objectives
 Maintaining 7-8% growth
 Access to education, health
 Employment generation
 Assuring 100 days of employment
 Agri, rural development
 Fiscal consolidation and reform
 Fiscal devolution
 
The full budget for the financial year 2009-10 will be presented by the party which wins power and will not come until around July.
