Benchmark Pepper prices at Kochi were quoted at steady rates amidst regular offtakes in the domestic market on Thursday.
Pepper Futures December contract traded in sideways to up manner in the beginning of the session and but shredded earlier gains of the previous days and settled negatively on Thursday.
There were confusing reports that pepper production in Indonesia for the year 2009 is expected to be 80000 tonnes.
Demand from the overseas market continues to remain lacklustre whereas demand from the domestic market especially from the northern India is present.
International prices of pepper of different origins per tonne c&f New York were respectively MG1 $3,400–$3,500/tonne, Vietnam Asta $3,275-$3,300/tonne, Lampong Asta $3,300, Brazil Asta $2,850 /tonne (f.o.b.).
