Commodity Online NEW DELHI: India’s rice export is expected to fall by 33 percent this year as the government has increased the shipment charge to Rs 8000 per tonne along with high minimum export prices.
According to All India Rice Exporters Association official, basmati export from India is likely to fall to nearly 8 lakh tonnes compared to 12 lakh tonnes last year.
Pakistan exporters are quoting lower prices for the basmati rice than Indian exporters. That would indulge overseas customers to buy from Pakistan only, noted the official.
Noting this menace AIRE urged the government to abolish the duty on exports, he added.
