Ariana Resources has bought the Muratdag gold project in western Turkey from Newmont Altin Madencilik, a subsidiary of Newmont Mining.

Located 130km east of Sindirgi and 75km south-east of Tavsan, the property is an advanced exploration asset and the company claims that the purchase will help to ensure its longer-term future in the country.

Dr Kerim Sener, Ariana Resources managing director, commented: "The acquisition of the Muratdag project has helped secure a foothold for the company in the highly prospective Muratdag exploration region."

The Muratdag project has several geological similarities with the Tavsan and Demirci gold prospects and contains extensive areas of listwaenite-hosted gold mineralisation.

All three sites lie on the same stratigraphic horizon and Ariana has obtained the core licence covering the Muratdag property from Newmont in exchange for royalty payments on commercial production.
