Givenchy designer Riccardo Tisci relied heavily upon gold jewellery and accessories to complete the look of his models in a Paris show with a Middle Eastern theme earlier this week.

His autumn and winter haute couture collection made generous use of the precious metal, with one model sporting dramatic gold necklaces to imitate an armoured or masked look.

"Tisci has mapped out tough glamour as his fashion turf and his models, with chunky gold rings on every finger and tiaras of spikes worthy of the Statue of Liberty, looked ready to defend it," said W Magazine.

The show followed the unveiling of a range of haute couture handbags featuring 22-c gold metalwork by Stephane Rolland in the French capital.

Chunky gold jewellery - including necklaces, bracelets and rings - is one of the key trends influencing women's fashion this summer.

One of the main styles incorporating these accessories is a tribal look that can also include African beads in bold colours and natural shapes for jewellery components, as well as bright animal prints and make-up with earth tones.
