A golden car is currently being built by a team of goldsmiths for a Tamil Nadu temple in India. Led by A Rahman Stabathi - who has previously made 25 such cars, or chariots, for temples in the Tamil Nadu area - the goldsmiths are constructing a vehicle made primarily from 24-c gold and Burma teak for the Swami Nellaiappar temple in Tirunelveli, Express Buzz reports.

Around 10kg of gold is being used in the project, with over 7kg of this given by various donors.

Mr Stabathi has made golden cars and chariots ranging from 18kg to 70kg in total weight.

He said: "Now I have eight more projects in various temples in Tamil Nadu. At the Nellaiappar Kandimathiambal temple, Muslims and Hindus are engaged with me in the making of [a] 12ft golden car."

Tamil Nadu is the southernmost state of India and is home to thousands of ancient and modern temples devoted to a number of different Hindu gods.
