SANTIAGO (Commodity Online): August copper output from Chile fell 8.3% to 427,420 MT, government agencies said.
Chile produces about a third of the world’s annual copper output.
The National Statistics Institute attributed the decline to mine strikes, severe weather and low ore grades.
Workers of the Escondida mine, the world’s largest, had staged a 15 day strike earlier which contributed significantly to the lost production.
-August Molybdenum output grew 5.5% YoY to total 3,415 tons. Gold production rose 2.1% while Silver declined 8.6% in the same period.
