JAKARTA (Commodity Online): Indonesia's palm oil production is expected to rise by 6.4% to 25 million metric tons in 2012, while exports could increase to 17.5 million to 18 million tons from last year’s estimated 16 million tons, according to Indonesian Palm Oil Producers Association (Gapki).
The export is expected to grow, although demand from Europe will be stagnant, due to the growing demand from the main markets, India and China.
The palm oil export projection to China this year was below the 21 percent increase to 2.9 million tons in 2011.
Meanwhile, “We predict that the palm oil export to Pakistan may reach 800,000 tons this year from last year’s estimated 220,000 tons,"said Susanto, marketing head, Indonesian Palm Oil Producers Association (Gapki), reported The Jakarta Post
Indonesia was the largest exporter of palm oil to Pakistan at around US$560 million till 2007, but afterward, Malaysia started surpassing Indonesia’s palm oil export.
