Gold earring dating back to the life and times of Jesus Christ? Yes, a precious gold earring that is believed to have been existed during the historical Christ era has been discovered in Jerusalem.
According to a posting in the World Gold Council web site, the precious gold earring was uncovered beneath a car park near to the walls of the old city during an excavation being carried out by the Israel Antiquities Authority.
It is thought to be 2,000 years old but is "astonishingly well-preserved", revealed Doron Ben-Ami, the director of excavation at the location.
Although it dates back to Roman times, the piece was discovered in the ruins of a structure built in the Byzantine period.
The earring consists of a
Gold hoop with two smaller pendants hanging below and is adorned with precious jewels.
Meanwhile, a hoard of nearly 6,000 Roman gold coins found in Wales has been officially declared as treasure and the national museum hopes to put the collection on display.
The discovery was made by a 79-year-old metal detecting enthusiast in the Vale of Glamorgan in April of this year.
