Daiwa Can hunts site for aluminium plant

TOKYO (Commodity Online): Japan’s largest maker of aluminium and plastic packaging, Daiwa Can Co Ltd may build a plant in the Sverdlovsk Oblast.

Hirohisa Yamaguchi, the Executive Director of Daiwa Can has conducted negotiations with the regional government.

The Japanese company is considering several Russian regions for the construction of an aluminium packaging plant.

The Sverdlovsk Oblast authorities have suggested the use of the JSC Ural Foil site. The nominal capacity of the plant is 44,000 tonnes of aluminium foil, 10,000 tonnes of aluminium strip, and 16,000 tonnes of zinc rolled metal.

The regional government said JSC Uralchimplast has also demonstrated interest in cooperation with Daiwa Can. The Urals manufacturer of synthetic resins is prepared to set up the production of food-safe lacquers for aluminium cans.

Daiwa Can includes 8 plants, 2 research facilities and a number of sales offices in all large Japanese cities. Coca-Cola Group, Asahi Breweries Group, Kirin Group, Nestle Japan Ltd. are the key customers of the company.
