DUBAI: A new portal selling Gold jewellery has been launched in Dubai to provide an online shopping platform for jewellers, says a report posted in the World Gold Council web site.

Unveiled at the 2008 Dubai International Jewellery Show, Jewelplanet.com claims to be a "first of its kind jewellery e-commerce portal" that enables jewellers to showcase their products and enhance their visibility on the internet.

The online shopping site has been created by Dubai-based Communication Crafts and has been developed specifically for jewellers in United Arab Emirates.

Jaymin Bhuptani, Jewelplanet.com business manager, said: "There are many reasons behind selecting Dubai as a launch platform, the most important reason being the brand name Dubai has built for itself as 'the city of gold'."

Dubai is one of the world's largest Gold markets and an estimated 95 per cent of the tourists who visit the emirate each year purchase jewellery.

Thousands of people visited the five-day 2008 Dubai International Jewellery Show this month, with traders, shoppers and jewellery fans from around the world flocking to the event at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre.
