ICAR advises farmers to plant wheat early
Published on: November 11, 2008 at 16:35
Crop scientists at the Indian Council of Agricultural Research on Tuesday advised farmers to plant wheat as early as possible so that they get the maximum yield from their crop.

As per a long-term study done by the ICAR the loss can be as much as 40 per cent if wheat is sown very late.

Wheat yield has been found to go down by about 50 kg per hectare per day if it is sown very late in the northern States.

The loss is, however, lesser at about 36 kg per hectare per day in the southern wheat growing States, Maharashtra and Karnataka.
