MUMBAI: In an advice to India’s mining companies, the Atomic Energy Commission told Indian Inc that those wanting to invest in uranium mining outside India must follow the rule of that land.
If you’re doing mining business in a particular country, it is necessary that you fully comply with the laws of that country, AEC said.
The business also has to be within the framework of international norms. Whether you can bring that chemical into India or not is another matter, but uranium is a profitable business. In the business of uranium mining, in terms of movement of uranium or export, there are larger restrictions on exporting and importing countries. And all of them have to comply with a set of international abbreviations.
After India obtained clearance for nuclear commerce from the 45-member Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG), India is also acquiring uranium for its programme from these suppliers.
