NEW DELHI : Nasik-based National Horticulture Research and Development Foundation (NHRDF) on Tuesday said onion prices in India which have fallen by over 47 per cent in the current month due to rising arrivals in wholesale markets.
Speaking to reporters here NHRDF Additional Director Satish Bhonde said, "Onion prices are declining now due to increased arrival from the late kharif crop"

Late kharif crop arrivals, which commenced from January, have almost ended now.
"Supplies have increased and we are expecting to harvest at 16.11 lakh tonnes this season, compared to 15.15 lakh tonnes in a year-ago period," he said.
"The last bit of crop in Maharashtra, Gujarat and Rajasthan is hitting the wholesale markets in bulk. Arrival in Lasalgoan has risen to 1,36,325 quintals in the last week," Bhonde said.
Wholesale prices in India's largest onion-trading hub, Lasalgaon in western Maharashtra, have eased to Rs 651 a quintal, from Rs 1,238 a quintal in January.
Prices in Mumbai fell by 39 per cent to Rs 775 a quintal from Rs 1,266 a quintal at the beginning of the year.
Prices in Chennai declined by 43 per cent to Rs 1,000 a quintal from Rs 1,762 a quintal in January, and in Kolkata by 44.50 per cent to Rs 950 from Rs 1,712 a quintal also in January.
