MUMBAI (Commodity Online): Indian government has raised the minimum support prices of wheat and chana by Rs 20 and Rs 30 respectively for the 2009-10 procurement season in order to strengthen the PDS.
The decision was taken by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs headed by Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh. The MSP of wheat has been fixed at Rs 1,100 per quintal, marking an increase of Rs 20 per quintal as against Rs 1080 per quintal, said Home Minister P Chidambaram.
The government also raised the MSP for some other rabi crops such as barley and safflower.

Despite hike in minimum support prices, wheat Dara prices remained flat in Delhi Thursday on weak buying by flour mills because of sluggish demand for wheat products such as atta, maida and suji.
Trading in rice, maize and barley was thin and prices ruled flat.
