Australia slaps dumping duty on Chinese aluminium

SYDNEY (Commodity Online): After the US imposed anti-dumping duty on Chinese Steel pipes, Australia has imposed a provisional dumping duty of 16 percent on certain Aluminium extrusions from China from November 6.

The Customs and Border Protection said it’s satisfied that the dumped and subsidized goods appear to have caused material injury to the Australian industry producing like goods.

The Australian customs authorities launched an investigation into the case in June and are due to report to the minister of home affairs with recommendations on or before April 15, 2010 on whether to publish a dumping duty notice.

It is unclear the volume of extrusions shipped to Australia from China.

The action followed Canada’s decision in March to impose dumping and subsidizing tariffs on Chinese extrusions.

This week, the US had also imposed anti-dumping duty on Chinese Steel pipes used in oil rigs.
This had invited big protest from China and its steel mills.
