MUMBAI: Oilmeals export which had shown quantum rise in first and second quarter of the financial year 2008-09, however, showed stagnancy in the 3rd quarter(October – December 08) due to economic recession, fall in export realization in International Market and non performance of export contracts for oilmeals by some overseas buyers, according to Solvent Extractors Association of India (SEAI)
The overall export of oilmeals for the period April to December 2008 (9 months) is reported at 4,047,232 tons compared to 2,986,018 tons during same period of last year due to increase in export of soybean meal from 1,981,225 tons to 3,056,334 tons and Rapeseed meal from 597,927 tons to 702,622 tons. Export of other oilmeals i.e. Rice Bran Extraction, Castor Seed Extraction and Groundnut Extractions have decreased in first nine months of the financial year 2008-09.
The F.O.B. earning during December 2008 is Rs. 965.0 crores and total F.O.B. earning from April to December 2008 estimated at Rs. 5934.0 crores.
International Prices of OilmealsAverage International Prices in December’08 for soybean meal compared to July 2008 reduced over 42%, rapeseed meal over 28%, groundnut meal 49%, rice bran ext. 16% and castor seed Ext. 44%.
Vietnam ,South Korea and Japan - Major Importers of OilmealsFollowing the SEA delegations visit to South East Asian Countries in May 2008, Vietnam has shown quantum jump in import of oilmeals from India and is reported at 1,087400 tons compared to 913,514 tons last year, consisting of 943,597 tons of soybean meal, 44,340 tons of rapeseed meal and entire 99,149 tons of rice bran extraction. South Korea reported import of 615,172 tons compared to 535,325 tons of last year, consisting of 324,957 tons of rapeseed meal, 141,021 tons of soybean meal and 149,194 tons of castor seed meal. Japan again emerged as big importer and bought 596,075 tons compared to 429,475 tons last year consisting of 589,102 tons of soybean meal being non-GMO and 6,973 tons of rapeseed meal during April to December 2008.
Port-wise Export : April- Dec., 2008 The export from Kandla is reported at 2,339,809 tons (58%), followed by Mumbai including JNPT which handled 895,201 tons (22%), Bedi 413,358 tons (8%), Vizag handled 195,709 tons (5%), Kakinada 79,368 tons (2%) , Mundra 67,363 tons (2%) and Kolkata 49,862 tons( 1%).
