Oilmeals export surge on Thailand-Japan demand

MUMBAI: Demand surge from Japan and Thailand has led to a 81 percent growth in oilmeals exports from India

India's oilmeals exports was 2.84 lakh tonnes last month representing 81 percent growth on a year-on-year basis, according to Mumbai-based Solvent Extractors Association of India.

Soyabean meal shipments stood at 2.41 lakh tonnes, rapeseed meal at 19,245 tonnes and castor seed meal at 23,485 tonnes, it said.

While the total exports during the first quarter (April-June) rose more than two-fold to 11.07 lakh tonnes, against 4.24 la kh tonnes during the same quarter last year following a quantum jump in shipments to Japan and Thailand, Mr B V Mehta, Executive Director, SEA said.

Oilmeal exports to Japan spiked by 97 per cent to 1.90 lakh tonnes, while to Thailand by 90 per cent to over 1.51 lakh tonnes, SEA data said.

Exports to Vietnam and South Korea also rose in the range of 10-18 per cent. Of five major ports, shipments from Kandla stood highest at 8.48 lakh tonnes last month, followed by Mumbai, Bedi and Kakinada.
