ISLAMABAD : Pakistan is expecting a bumper rice crop this season and it bring solace to the bankrupt economy and the government has suddenly jumped into the bandwagon by setting an export target of $3 billion compared to $2.5 billion last year, Daily Times quoted Rahim Janoo, newly elected chairman of Rice Exporters Association of Pakistan.

But it has come with a big brother help from India especially in Islamic countries like UAE, Iran and most of African countries. India dominated the show leaving Pakistan no chance of getting into the scenario.

India’s ban on non-basmati rice exports will continue to keep local prices firm and tighten the situation in UAE. Pakistan is trying to get benefit from this since this ban may soon go as the global situation has changed and so has the inflation rates.

Daily Times said Pakistan so far has exported a total of $1 billion rice out of which the largest share was exported to Kenya, the largest buyer of Pakistani rice in Africa. It is expected that rice worth Rs 200 billion will be exported to Kenya this year.
