This year, they are using the new type of grain containers purchased with government help.

The Sichuan basin is hot and humid. The climate is not good for grain storage. The average grain loss rate for a family is about six percent. The whole province looses at least 1.2 billion kilogram of grains a year.

Storage Department of Sichuan Grain Bureau has invested more than 6 million yuan in building small grain containers throughout the province.

Compared with old wooden grain containers, these new containers made of steel panels are very practical and safe. But, their price is relatively higher.

Local farmers also benefit from new grain containers, and the use of scientific technology during the planting process. Local governments invested 40 million yuan in renovating nearly 27-hundred hectares of low-yielding crop fields.

The total autumn grain output is expected to reach 35 billion kilograms for the whole province this year, up 500 million kilogram over last year.
