HANOI (Commodity Online): Vietnam has introduced new standard practices to improve its rice quality under a national plan to boost export revenue.

Vietnam's rice farmers should begin to follow the international Good Agricultural Practice (GAP) standards known as Global GAP, said Le Huu Hai, head of the Agriculture Department of Cai Lay District in the Mekong Delta province of Tien Giang.

GAP standards have been developed to ensure farmers produce safe, healthy and high-quality food.

The quality of Vietnamese rice is also often affected by poor storage practices. Vietnam does not yet have enough warehouses that are able to store rice for several months without the grain deteriorating.
