Vietnam likely to ship 680000 tonnes rice in May

HANOI: Vietnam, one of the leading rice producing country in the world, is expected to export around 680000 metric tonnes of rice this month, according to the government’s General Statistics Office.

Exports may fall 23.4% in value to $340 million, the GSO said. In April, Vietnam exported 711,000 tons, valued at $348 million, according to revised figures from the GSO.

Vietnam will export 3.167 million tons of rice in the first five months of this year, valued at $1.498 billion, up 43.3% on year in terms of volume and up 20.2% in value.
