Vijayaraghavan is new Chairman of Coir Board

KOCHI: V S Vijayaraghavan,former Member of Parliament has taken charge as Chairman of Coir Board. He becomes the second non-Official Chairman to occupy the top position in the commodity board under the Union Commerce Ministry. Senior Congress leader A C Jose was the first non-offiical Chairman of the Board.
Vijayarghavan was Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) from Palakkad for three times in 1980, 1984 and 1991. During the tenure as Member of Parliament he served in various Parliamentary Committees for Public Undertaking, Estimate Committee, Criminal Law Amendment Bill, Mental Health, Commerce and Railways, Civil Aviation and Tourism. He was member of Rubber Board, Coffee Board and Spices Board.
V S Vijayaraghavan has also been awarded “Vikas Rattan Award 1995” constituted by the International Friendship Society of India for maximum developmental activities of his constituency. He has been actively involved in the trade Union movement at Palakkad. He is the President of the Congress led Unions in the Indian Telephone Industries Ltd and Instrumentation Ltd. He was the President of Congress unions in Malabar Cements Ltd and Postal Department of Palakkad District.
