NEW YORK (Commodity Online): The World Gold Council (WGC) has inducted Juan Carlos Artigas, a former emerging markets strategist at J P Morgan to its Research and Analytics wing in New York as Investment Research Manager.

WGC termed the appointment as a  recognition of record investor interest in gold. Marcus Grubb, Managing Director of Investment Research and Marketing, World Gold Council, said: “As gold continues to prove its worth as a unique preserver of wealth, one of World Gold Council’s missions is to ensure that gold’s unique investment attributes are well understood. Our research provides an invaluable source of information about the strategic case for gold investment, particularly in the context of a highly changeable and uncertain financial market. Juan Carlos’ knowledge and experience make him the perfect choice to expand our work in this regard.”

Artigas joins the organization from his position as an associate at JP Morgan Securities, specializing in emerging markets strategy and U.S. fixed income markets strategy. He has extensive finance experience, having previously worked as an adviser to the general director of planning, programming and budgeting at the Ministry of Education in Mexico, and as a lecturer and consultant at The University of Chicago. He also has Masters Degrees in Science in Statistics and Business Administration in Finance, and is currently working towards a Doctorate in Econometrics and Statistics.

Commenting on his new role, Artigas said: “At a time when gold’s role as a risk diversifier is especially relevant, I am excited by the opportunity this role represents. The unprecedented uncertainty and volatility seen in global financial markets has prompted a reappraisal of investment and market risk. The WGC’s analysis of the behavior of gold within a diversified portfolio has already attracted quite a market following and I look forward to building further on this critical bank of work (Businesswire)
