Zim scraps import licenses for basic commodities

HARARE : Zimbabwe government on Wednesday decided to waive the requirement of import licenses on some basic commodities with immediate effect.

In a statement issued here, the Ministry of Industry and International Trade said, maize meal, flour, samp, corn, soya blend, cooking and vegetable oil, butter, margarine, fats and sugar, will not require import licenses until further notice.

The decision comes after wide consultations with the business community following the National Economic Consultative Forum meeting held on Tuesday.

He said the move will enable companies and individuals with free funds to bring into the country as much food items as possible ahead of the festive season
