BHP’s Shenzi field crosses production hopes
Commodity Online BHP Billiton Ltd. (ASX:BHP) has announced that the Shenzi field in the Gulf of Mexico is delivering output which is beyond the facility's supposed capacity of 100,000 barrels of oil per day by having achieved sustained rates of 120,000 barrels of oil per day.
BHP Billiton Ltd. is a Melbourne based diversified natural resources enterprise.
Shenzi facility is located approximately 120 miles or 195 kilometers off the Louisiana coastline and is installed in approximately 4,300 feet or 1,300 meters or of water on Green Canyon Block 653, making it the second deepest TLP in the world.
The Shenzi field comprises 4 blocks viz. Green Canyon 609, 610, 653 and 654. BHP is the operator with 44% equity, while the joint interest participants are Hess Corp. (NYSE:REP) and Repsol YPF (NYSE:REP) both holding 28% equity.
Notably, BHP has recently agreed to supply a total of 22 million tonnes of iron ore to South Korea located Hyundai Steel co. (SEO: 004020) from 2009-2017.
BHP stock gained 0.82% at Australia Stock Exchange while closing at 38 on Thursday. It touched a 52-week high of 39.87 and low of 20.
