Chile’s copper output soars to 5.41Mt in 2009
SANTIAGO (Commodity Online): Chile’s copper production moved by 0.8% to 5.41 million tonnes in 2009 as against previous year, while December production rose 3.8% year-on-year to 501950 tonnes, said country’s National Statistics Bureau INE reported.
Last month's increase was mainly the result of higher copper in concentrate output of 231,202t, up 14.5% compared to December 2008. Cathode production fell 7.2% in the same period due partly to labor disputes, INE said in its monthly bulletin.
Molybdenum output fell 25.8% year-on-year to 2,667t in December while full year 2009 production rose 3.9% to 34,954t, INE added. In other metals, December production of silver increased 4%, iron ore rose 3.8% and gold went up 17.2%.
