Commodity Online
KOCHI: India’s coir exports registered a healthy 11.15 percent increase in last fiscal by exporting 1, 87,566 tones in volume, according to Coir Board.
However, due to rupee appreciation the export for the period was less by 2 cent compared to previous years figure and would have gone up to Rs.636 crores, said A C Jose, Chairman, Coir Board.
He said even though there are so many hurdles that affected the export of coir and coir products the figures show a commendable volume growth during the financial year 07-08. He urged for immediate remedial measures by the RBI in tandem with the Finance Ministry so as not to dent export competitiveness.
India exports coir and its products to more than 97 countries the world over. The USA is the single largest market with a share of more than 40% in the total export. European countries together share more than 41% of the export of coir.
