TOKYO (Commodity Online): Iran accounted for 8.6% of total crude oil imports by Japan for the month of December 2011 thus ranking the Middle-East country as the 4th largest oil supplier to Asian nation, latest data from the Japan Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) showed.
This data comes as the Japanese are seeking an exemption from the US on total ban on Iran oil imports. For this, Japan has to show US that it has significantly cut back on its oil purchases from Iran.
Saudi Arabia remained the top oil supplier to Japan, followed by the United Arab Emirates at the second place and Qatar at third.
