NEW DELHI: ‘Mo’ loves gold so is the world. On Tuesday, at the swearing-in ceremony of US president Barack Obama, the world realised one big truth which many of the American banks had forgotten in the past few decades — the future is in GOLD.
And, Obama’s fashionable wife Michelle underlined that point by wearing a scintillating, pale-gold embossed coat with a matching shift dress which featured a sparkling geometric, diamanté neckline, and cardigan.
Designed by one of her favourite designers, Isabel Toledo, the dress trumpeted to the world what is the colour of future for the US and the world — it’s gold, the colour of optimism.
Later when asked why did she go for gold, the first lady of the US said she wanted a clour of optimism and hope.
The lemongrass-yellow coat and dress she sported at the ceremony were hand-made by workers in Toledo’s studio, using Swiss wool lace, backed with netting for warmth and lined in French silk.
Michelle accessorised the ensemble with leather gloves and a pair of British luxury brand, Jimmy Choo shoes, the ‘Glacier’ patent leather pumps in a striking shade of green.
Obama’s daughters wore coats from the J Crew children’s collection ‘Crewcuts’, Malia in periwinkle blue, and Sasha in strawberry-pink, both accessorised with warm scarves.
Since the beginning of Barack Obama’s race to be the first black American president, his wife, who has been dubbed ‘Mo’, has surprised and delighted with her wardrobe.
In the global market also, gold is the ruling commodity now with all investors backing gold and rushing to buy it. American banks which suffered badly in subprime crisis had been neglecting gold for quite sometime. But, gold has emerged as the single commodity in the world now which has won the maximum faith of investors.
So, at a time like this when the world is reeling under severe recession, was Michelle giving a message to the world — "YES WE CAN, WITH GOLD".
