KUALA LUMPUR (Commodity Online): Due to shortfall in production, the global outlook for Pepper, the king of spices, to remian strong for the 2012.the global production is estimated to be around 320,155 tons and consumption is expected to be 371,000 tons, according to Malaysian Pepper Board (MPB).
The price pepper have been steady for the past two years.
The production in the top producing regions grew but is not expected to meet the global demand of 371,000 tons for 2012.
Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia are the three top producers of pepper and the production in these countries has shown tremendous rise.
The production statistics of the major producing regions are as follows :- The production in Vietnam rose by 10% to 110,000 ton, Indonesia was up by 24% to 41,000 ton and Malaysia up by 5% to 26,500 tons.
The total of all the producing region is estimated to be around 320,155 tons showing a shortfall of 50,845 tons for 2012.
Meanwhile, the production in India for 2011-12 is expected to scale down to 5% to 43000 tons as compared to 48000 tonnes last year.
According to Spices Board of India, exports of pepper during April-November 2011 stood at 17,000 tons as compared to 11,850 tons in 2010-11, rise of 43.6%.
Indian parity in the international market is being offered at $6,625/ton.
In India's National Commodity and Derivative Exchange (NCDEX), pepper for July delivery traded up 2.09% to Rs 31500 on Friday morning trade.
Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, India , Spain are some of the top exporters of pepper.
