Global wheat output likely to touch 675.5Mt: F O Licht
MUMBAI (Commodity Online): Global wheat production is forecasted to touch 675.5 million metric tons in 2009-10 due to growth in Black Sea output, said German based analytical firm F.O. Licht.
However, this is 8.7 million tons lower than 2008-09’s record crop. F.O. Licht revised up its world 2009-10 corn production estimate to 775.7 million tons, from its January estimate of 769.8 million tons.
The European Union’s 2009-10 wheat production was revised down to 138.8 million tons, from the January estimate of 139.7 million tons.
This is 11.63 million tons lower than the bloc’s 2008-09 output. However, “Lower expected results from the EU, due to smaller area, and in Syria, due to dry conditions were offset by larger outputs from Russia and Kazakhstan,” the report said.
This was lower than 2008-09 production of 781.8 million tons. World 2009-10 barely production estimates remained inline with last month’s at 148.5 million tons, down 5 million tons on the year.
