Gold mining stocks steal the show on wall St

NEW YORK: Even as the US stocks soared to new heights on Wednesday, it ensured a surge in stocks of several bullion mining companies.

Major gainers included Barrick Gold Corp., Newmont Mining Corporation, Teck Cominco Limited, Goldcorp Inc and Northgate Minerals Corporation.

Barrick Gold Corporation, which is engaged the production and sale of gold, as well as related activities, such as exploration and mine development, has posted a gain of 0.82 per cent at $40.78 on TSE.

Newmont Mining Corporation, primarily a gold producer with significant assets and operations in the United States, Australia, Peru, Indonesia, Ghana, Canada, New Zealand, and Mexico, witnessed its stocks soaring by 2.27 per cent in the afternoon at $46.90.

Rio Tinto, a mining and exploration major in aluminum, copper, diamonds, energy products, gold, industrial minerals (borates, titanium dioxide, salt and talc), and iron ore, also joined the bull run with a gain of 1.43 per cent at $54.70 on Wednesday afternoon.

Same is the case with Kinross Gold Corporation, which is engaged in gold mining and related activities, including exploration and acquisition of gold-bearing properties, the extraction and processing of ore, and reclamation of mining properties.

Kinross’ gold production and exploration activities are carried out in the United States, Brazil, Chile and the Russian Federation.
