MUMBAI (Commodity Online): Growing jewellery purchases in the wake of festival and marriage seasons have led to a surge in gold and bullion prices in Indian spot and futures market. On Saturday, gold and silver prices went up considerably well in the Mumbai bullion market, the benchmark market for bullion prices.

Gold prices on rose by Rs 60 to close at Rs 15,360 per 10 gram in the bullion market here on buying by stockists and jewellery makers following firming global trend.

Silver surged by Rs 200 to settle at Rs 23,900 per kg. Trading sentiment remained firm as gold climbed to a three-week high in the overseas markets last night on signs of increased investor demand, traders said.

A pick up in buying ahead of the marriage season beginning next week was additional factor for the upsurge.

Standard gold and ornaments advanced by Rs 60 each to Rs 15,360 per 10 grams and Rs 15,210 per 10 grams respectively. Sovereign gained Rs 50 at Rs 12,650 per piece of eight gram.

Silver ready rose by Rs 200 to Rs 23,900 per kg and weekly-based delivery by Rs 360 to Rs 23,760 per kg. Its coins too in demand and gained Rs 100 at Rs 30,200 for buying and Rs 30,300 for selling of 100 pieces.
