NEW DELHI: The government has decided to continue with the market intervention of its agencies in checking the price of politically sensitive onion in Delhi.

NAFED, Mother Dairy, Kendriya Bhandar and Delhi Government’s Food and Supplies Department would act in coordination with each other and continue their present market intervention measures for sale of onion in Delhi, an official government release said.

The decision was taken at a high official-level meeting here today, which called to review the situation of availability and prices of onion and the extent of market intervention made by these agencies.

The meeting decided that different agencies would take the price at which Delhi Government was selling onion through its outlets as the benchmark price.

The sale price would not exceed Rs. 18 per Kg. Presently Delhi Government is selling onion through its outlet at the rate of Rs.17 per Kg, while Mother Dairy is selling onion at the rate of Rs. 18 through its 350 outlets.

Kendriya Bhandar has agreed to start market intervention on a pilot basis at some of its outlets in Delhi. It agency would sell onion through its outlets where other agencies have no outlets in proximity. NAFED would assist Kendriya Bhandar in procurement of onion, the release said.
