India again lists cottonseed as essential commodity
NEW DELHI (Commodity Online) : After a two years break, cottonseed once again find its place in the list of essential commodities in India.
Indian government on Thursday decided to include it in the list of essential commodities after it was deleted from the list when the Essential Commodities Act was amended in 2007.
Analysts said decision to include cotton seed among essential commodities will help India to keep a check on the quality of cotton seed, especially those of the hybrid variety.
India is one of the top cotton producers of the world with raw cotton exports in October shot up 293 percent to 115,637 bales (of 170 kg each) over the corresponding period the previous year.
Meanwhile, India's cottonseed oilcake, or kapaskhali, futures remained lower Friday from Thursday’s close as traders booked profits.
The January contract NCDF0 was seen trading at Rs 1162 per 100 kg while February contract was at Rs1177 per 100 kg at the same time.
Kapaskhali, a byproduct of cottonseed, is used as cattle feed and is largely consumed in the north-western states of India.
India’s cotton marketing year is from October to September.
