NEW DELHI (Commodity Online): India relaesed 16.12 lakh tons of sugar for the month of February, according to the Minstry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution.
Of the allocated 16.12lakh ton sugar, 14 lakh tons is for sale in the open market (called non-levy sugar) and the remaining 2.12 lakh tonnes would be for ration shops (called levy sugar).
India is the second largest producer of Sugar and expects to produce around 26 million tons in 2011-12.
