NEW DELHI (Commodity Online): On account of heavy rainfall in the growing region and also 2011-12 coffee year (CY) is an ’off-year’, the production of Indian coffee is expected to decline to around 2.95 lakh tons, according to All India Coffee Exporters Association.
Coffee crops has a bi- annual cycle, so crop production peaks every alternate year.
Earlier, the country's production estimates was pegged at around 3.22 lakh tons for 2011-12 CY. India produced around 3.02 lakh tons in 2010-2011 CY.
But according to Jawaid Akhtar, Chairman, Coffee Board, the post-monsoon estimation is going on and and preliminary results indicate that there may not be significant changes, reported PTI.
India is one of the top five producers in the world and exports mainly to European regions.
