NEW DELHI (Commodity Online): In a meeting between Indian coal minister and Czech Republic counterpart, Indian side impressed upon Czech Republic, the scope for mining in India as well as establishing manufacturing facilities in India for underground mining machinery.
The other areas of interests for India for technical cooperation with Czech Republic include deep coal mining, lignite mining, and clean coal technologies including coal mine methane extraction, underground coal gasification, inter alia.
Both the sides evinced interest for increased participation in coal sector and machinery manufacturing.
Indian side also requested Czech industry to participate in the tenders floated by them for development of coal, lignite and power generation.
The Czech Republic is poor in energy resources except for coal. The World Energy Council estimates proved recoverable reserves of bituminous coal and anthracite as 2613 Mt and recoverable brown coal and lignite reserves at 3564 Mt there. Coal accounts for 56% of primary energy consumption in Czech Republic.
Sriprakash Jaiswal, Indian Minister of Coal met Martin Kocourek, Minister of Industry and Trade, Czech Republic here on Tuesday.
Both the Ministers led the respective delegations and interacted about the scope for technical cooperation in areas concerning development of coal mining in India particularly underground coal mining.
