India June gold imports likely between 8-10 tones

MUMBAI : India’s leading gold trade organization, Bombay Bullion Association (BBA) said country’s gold imports in June were likely around 8 to 10 tones, down from 24 tones the same month a year ago.
In a statement, BBA said in the first six months of this year, India's imports stood at approximately 59.8 tones, down 57 percent from 139 tones a year earlier.

Analysts said, world's biggest gold consumer has been badly hit with gold rising on its safe haven appeal amid economic uncertainty overseas.
It was unlikely that the festival season beginning in October could make up for the poor sales in the first half of the year, they added.
India's imports in 2008 were at 395.8 tones against 759 tones in 2007.
