NEW DELHI(Commodity Online): India's Tobacco Board has launched e-auction for tobacco in Karnataka. Electronic auction system will ensure transparency and pre-empt cartel formation by the trade and as a result, the tobacco farmer will get a better price, according to Union Minister of State for Commerce D. Purandeswari.

A meeting would soon be conducted with the representatives of growers, traders and the board officials to sort out the pending issues, she added.

She said the State Government would be requested to waive off the interest on crop loans. The function was presided over by A.H. Vishwanath, Member of Parliament from Mysore, and attended by the elected representatives representing Mysore and Hassan districts besides the members of the Tobacco Board and representatives of the service provider NIIT.

The programme was attended by more than 3,000 tobacco growers from Mysore and Hassan districts.
