The overall import of vegetable oils during Nov.’12 to Mar.’13 is reported at 4,631,977 tons compared to 3,789,629 i.e. up by 22.22%.

MUMBAI (Commodity Online): India's import of vegetable oils during March 2013 is reported at 896,714 tons compared to 727,706 tons in March 2012, consisting of 850,906 tons of edible oils and 45,808 tons of non-edible oils i.e. up by 23.22 %, Solvent Extractors’ Association of India said in a release.

The overall import of vegetable oils during Nov.’12 to Mar.’13 is reported at 4,631,977 tons compared to 3,789,629 i.e. up by 22.22%.

Highest stock at ports & pipelines

India's stock of edible oils as on 1st April, 2013 at various ports is estimated at 850,000 tons (CPO 600,000 tons, RBD Palmolein 110,000 tons, Degummed Soybean Oil 50,000 tons, Crude Sunflower Oil 90,000 tons) and about 1,250,000 tons in pipelines due to excessive import during last 4 months. Total stock, both at ports and in pipelines has touched to 2,100,000 tons, nearly 45 days consumption requirement by the country against usual stock of 30 days.

Import of refined & crude oil ratio

Import of RBD Palmolein increased to 137,407 tons in March 2013 compared to 116,237 tons in February 2013. Overall Import of refined oil (RBD Palmolein) during Nov.’12 to Mar.’13 reported at 620,698 tons compared to 821,960 tons during the same period of last year. Share of refined oil is 14%, while crude oil share is 86% and reported at 3,876,738 tons compared to 2,883,779 tons during the same period of last year.

During Nov.’12 to Mar.’13 Palm Oil import increased to 3,812,097 tons compared to 2,946,736 tons during the same period of last year. However, Soft oils import reduced to 685,339 tons from 759,003 tons last year.

Price movement

In last one year, RBD Palmolein has fallen by US$ 313 (27%), CPO by US$ 314 (28%), Crude Soybean Oil by US$ 165 (13%) and Crude Soybean Oil by US$ 42 (3%). Also, In last one year rupee has further depreciated by Rs. 4.06 per dollor (8.06%).

Depreciation of rupee was compensated much more by fall in price and hence Indian consumers were insulated from rupee depreciation.

Import of non-edible oils rising

Import of Non-edible oils during March 2013 is reported at 45,808 tons compared to 25,371 tons during the same period of last year. The overall import of non-edible oils during Nov.12 to Mar.’13 has increased to 134,541 tons compared to 83,890 tons during the same period last year. i.e. up by 60%.
