TRIVANDRUM (Commodity Online): The monsoon in India is expected to be reduced by 3%, according to Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). Earlier it was predicted that the deficit would be around 7%.
The western end of monsoon trough has shifted northwards and still runs south of its normal position. (A trough is an elongated region of relatively low atmospheric pressure). The trough would move further northwards during next 48 hours.
Till August 1, it is predicted that, fairly widespread rainfall would occur in many parts of the country except parts of east and southeast peninsular India.
Further, there are chances of developing low pressure area over west central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal, IMD said.
