India natural gas output surges sharply in Apr-May
NEW DELHI (Commodity Online): India’s crude oil production moved marginally up by 5.5% to 5.816 million metric tonnes during April-May this year, while natural gas registered a sharp increase in production by 43.5% in the same period, according to an official data released on Monday.
The country produced 5.5% crude oil during April-May period to 5.816 million metric tonnes against 5.513 million tonnes in the same period last year, the data said.
However, the crude oil total output has declined by 2.2% in April-May as compared to production target. The target set for crude oil was around 5.948 million metric tonnes in April-May 2010 and 3.099 million metric tonnes for May alone, it said.
According to data, various problems such as increasing water cut trend, shutdown in ONGC’s NRL-Numaligarh Refinery due to lack of Ullage (space to store produced oil) and less oil gain than planned from completed side track and development wells, have impacted the production target.
Meanwhile, natural gas production during April-May period this year increased by 43.5% to 9102.5 million cubic metres as compared to 6341.5 million cubic metres in the last year. Gas production was also up by 1.4% as against the set production target of 8975.4 million cubic metres for April-May 2010.
