NEW DELHI (Commodity Online): Late rains in the major tea growing regions in India may impact production of the commodity this year. The industry expects the production to be around 990 million kg by the end of the season.
The crop was estimated to be higher by 33 million kg till October 2011 but with the late rains, estimates had been revised to 20-25 million kg.
While, till October, the world tea production was down by 16 million kg.The fall in production, amid of rising exports and domestic consumption, the prices of tea has picked up.
India is the second largest tea producer in the world.
