India to develop single weather forecast system
NEW DELHI (Commodity Online) : In an attempt to develop a single weather forecast system, India said it will collaborate with international organizations.
According to India’s Ministry of Earth Sciences, the single system will provide accurate monsoon predictions.
“We will be working with international organizations like World Meteorological Organisation and others to develop a forecast system where all the organisations assess the weather situation and based on their output a single forecast for monsoon is made” said the ministry in a statement.
Minister of State for Earth Sciences Prithviraj Chavan said a lot of work has been done in the field of weather prediction.
‘The monsoon rainfall is directly related to agriculture in the country. Lot of money has been spent on modernisation of India Meteorological Department,’ said Chavan.
The minister also gave away the First National Award for Ocean Sciences and Technology to renowned scientist S. Krishnaswami.
