NEW DELHI: West African nation Senegal on Friday sought India’s help to develop one more of its rich potash mine.

Visiting Senegalese Minister of Mines and Industry, Madicke Niang conveyed the message during his talks with India’s Minister of Chemicals, Fertilisers, and Steel Ram Vilas Paswan here on Friday. Both the nations have also decided to improve bilateral ties with special significance to fertilizer segment

Welcoming the Senegalese Minister Paswan underlined the excellent relations between the two countries. Appreciating the recent efforts made by Government of Senegal and the IFFCO consortium for revival of ICS, Senegal, and Paswan hoped that this would ensure stability of phosphoric production by ICS in near future.

The Senegal Minister sought assistance of the Indian government to the tune of US $ 20 million to strengthen and upgrade the railway line connecting the Potash mines with the port.

Niang also offered another Potash mine in Senegal for development by Indian entities. Paswan indicated that a technical team would shortly visit Senegal to study the mines.

The restructuring of ICS Senegal will enhance the availability of phosphoric acid, which will result in softening of international prices of raw material.

Reward Minerals (RWD.AX) has a 25mmt JORC compliant sulphate of potash deposit ready to go in Western Australia. Only a matter of time before it gets taken on by foreign interests (Chinese or Indian). They have no other options if they want food security at a reasonable price.
