ABU DHABI (Commodity Online): Indian house wifes in United Arab Emirates (UAE) is concerned about the high level of additive ‘Sudan4’in the chilli powder from one of major Indian curry powder brand.
According to the Spices Board of India, the police has seized 1200 kilos of chilli powder contaminated with ‘Sudan dye’ in a recent raid conducted on the Eastern Condiments’ factory at Neeliyampeth in Kerala.The seized powder was set for exports.
Sudan dyes are red dyes used for colouring oils, waxes, petrol and shoe and floor polishes and according to researches, it is found that it can cause cancer.
While company officials denied the allegation.
Meanwhile, the samples seized from the company was sent for clinical test and the reosults ays that it contained 14 microgrammes of Sudan 4.
