CHENNAI (Commodity Online): India's Agriculture Minister has said that without boosting the agricultural production in the country, the implementation of proposed Food Security Bill would be difficult.
To boost the agricultural production, huge investments are required.
According to Sharad Pawar, the total budgeted provision for Agriculture Ministry was Rs 20,000 crore and subsidy, amounts for Rs 65,000 cr which may go up to Rs 1 lakh cr the current year, reported The Times of India.
Meanwhile, according to M S Swaminanthan, eminent agriculture scientist, the Food Security Bill needed to be revised to make universal public distribution system with well defined exclusion criteria to end poverty induced hunger.He also said that the country is capable of producing sufficient foood grain onthe back of due to dwindling agriculture lands.
