India's mineral production index dips 7.91% in Oct

NEW DELHI (Commodity Online): India's index of mineral production of mining and quarring sector growth declined 7.19% during October 2011 compared to same period last year, according to the Minsitry of Mines.


While, the index showed a positive growth of 10.54% in the sector during October 2011 compared to last month.


The total value of mineral production (excluding atomic & minor minerals) in the country during October 2011 was Rs.14555 crore. The contribution of petroleum (crude) was the highest at Rs. 5806 crore (40%), coal Rs 3748 crore iron ore Rs.2321 crore, natural gas (utilized) Rs. 1472 crore, lignite Rs. 288 crore and limestone Rs. 276 crore.


Production level of important minerals in October 2011 were: coal 400 lakh tonnes, lignite 27 lakh tonnes, natural gas (utilized) 3932 million cu. m., petroleum (crude) 32 lakh tonnes, bauxite 958 thousand tonnes, chromite 256 thousand tonnes, copper conc. 10 thousand tonnes, gold 104 kg., iron ore 105 lakh tonnes, lead conc. 13 thousand tonnes, manganese ore 170 thousand tonnes, zinc conc. 111 thousand tonnes, apatite & phosphorite 178 thousand tonnes, dolomite 388 thousand tonnes, limestone 199 lakh tonnes, magnesite 14 thousand tonnes and diamond 1481 carat.


In October 2011 the output of chromite increased by 47.18%, magnesite 34.90%, coal 33.88%, limestone 5.90%, manganese ore 5.20%, petroleum (crude) 3.21%, natural gas (utilized) 1.37 percent.


The production of lignite remains at the level of previous month. However the production of iron ore decreased by 1.24%, dolomite 2.17%, copper conc. 2.48%, lead conc. 2.61%, zinc conc. 2.71%, apatite & phosphorite 9.80%, bauxite 11.06%, diamond 28.14% and gold 29.25%
